The license is the GNU General Public License, which has been modified in consultation with The Free Software Foundation to allow the bundling together of Strandz applications from readily available software components. The modification clause follows:

One of the interesting things about the GNU GPL is that if an organisation is not offering an application for use by the public, then it can keep hold of its source. In this case the same license is used, but the application will not be publically released as such, and so there will be no licensing issues when combining Strandz with proprietary software.

An example of a special case where a commercial license would be required is where a Java Web Start application was to be used by a company's sales force, who are NOT company employees. If you think you may need a commercial license then please contact us.

As the non-core code (org.strandz.lgpl) can be used on its own, we have assigned it the Lesser GPL license. This means that you can combine this code with closed source code, and then distribute to non-employees.
